Trinkets Guide

Trinkets are equippable accessories introduced in Stardew Valley 1.6. Each trinket provides unique passive benefits to combat. They occupy their own dedicated equipment slot, separate from your two ring slots, allowing you to stack three different accessories at once (two rings + one trinket).

Trinkets are unlocked after you claim Combat Mastery at the Mastery Cave. After unlocking, most trinkets can drop from monsters, crates and barrels in the Mines, Skull Cavern, and Quarry Mine. The Magic Hair Gel is an exception that can only be purchased during the Desert Festival.

TL;DR

Trinkets are new 1.6 combat accessories in a dedicated slot. Obtain them after Combat Mastery, most from monster drops. 8 total trinkets exist: 5 combat-focused, 2 cosmetic, 1 unique magic arrow effect. You can re-roll trinket stats on the Anvil for 3 Iridium Bars.

Drop Chances

Trinkets drop randomly from monsters and containers:

  • Monster Drops: All monsters have a chance (varies by monster type and health)
  • Skull Cavern Treasure Chests: ~0.63% chance
  • Crates/Barrels: 0.4% + chance with luck bonuses
  • Luck buffs (Daily Luck + Luck Rings) increase drop chances
  • Burglarโ€™s Ring and Monster Compendium do not affect trinket drop rates

Basilisk Paw

Effect: Grants full immunity to all debuffs from enemies (e.g., slowness, damage over time, chilled, burning)

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Best For: Deep Skull Cavern exploration where many enemies apply debuffs. The immunity prevents you from being permanently slowed or poisoned, making it extremely valuable for long dungeon runs.

Fairy Box

Effect: Summons a fairy companion that periodically heals you in combat

Stats: Level 1-5; higher level = stronger healing

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Best For: Survival-focused gameplay in the Skull Cavern and Volcano Dungeon. Combine with Vampire Ring for near-infinite sustain.

Strategy Tip: Fairy Box healing procs periodically - donโ€™t rely on it as your only source of healing. Always carry emergency food.

Frog Egg

Effect: Summons a frog pet companion that follows you around.

Mechanics: Enemies eaten by the frog do not drop loot or count towards kills/quests. The frog only eats small enemies.

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Best For: Purely cosmetic companion. It doesnโ€™t provide combat benefits, just adds atmosphere to your adventures.

Golden Spur

Effect: When you land a critical hit, you gain an 8-second speed boost.

Duration: 8 seconds (maximum)

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Best For: High critical chance builds. Combine with the Scout profession + high critical weapons for frequent speed boosts. Makes kiting easier after engaging groups of enemies.

Ice Rod

Effect: Shoots an orb of ice every X seconds that freezes any enemies hit, stopping their movement for a few seconds.

Stats: Frequency 3-4 seconds; duration 3-4 seconds. Higher trinket level improves frequency and duration.

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Best For: Crowd control in the Mines and Skull Cavern. Freezing large groups of enemies makes them easier to handle one at a time.

Magic Hair Gel

Effect: Your hair continuously cycles through all rainbow colors.

Source: Only obtainable by purchasing from Alexโ€™s shop during the Desert Festival (held Spring 15-17)

Best For: Purely cosmetic. It doesnโ€™t affect combat at all, just makes your character look cool.

Magic Quiver

Effect: Shoots a magic arrow at nearby enemies every few seconds. Damage varies based on the type of Magic Quiver you get.

Types: Different affixes (Perfect, Rapid, Heavy) change arrow properties.

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Notes: Kills from magic arrows do count towards quests and monster eradication goals.

Parrot Egg

Effect: Summons a parrot companion that gives you a chance to find extra gold when you slay monsters.

Stats: Level 1-4; higher level = higher gold chance (~15% at level 4)

Source: Random drops from monsters and crates

Best For: Skull Cavern farming runs. The extra gold adds up significantly during extended dungeon dives.

Mastery Cave Unlocking

To access trinkets, you must:

  1. Reach level 10 in Combat skill
  2. Visit the Mastery Cave (unlocked after all skills reach level 10)
  3. Claim your Combat Mastery reward
  4. After this, trinkets start dropping from monsters

Re-forging Trinkets

All trinkets except Basilisk Paw and Magic Hair Gel can be re-forged on the Anvil in the Volcano Dungeon. Re-forging:

  • Randomizes the trinketโ€™s stats (level for most, type for Magic Quiver)
  • Costs 3 Iridium Bars per re-roll
  • You can re-roll as many times as you want until you get perfect stats
