Stardew Valley Fish Smoker Guide

Introduction

Fish Smoker is a crafting station added in Stardew Valley 1.6. It can smoke fish to greatly increase their sell price, an important tool for fishing players to increase income.

Acquisition

  • Crafting: Recipe unlocked after reaching Fishing Level 6
  • Recipe Materials:
    • Hardwood x 10
    • Moss x 10
    • Coal x 5
    • Copper Bar x 2

Usage

  1. Place Fish Smoker on the farm
  2. Interact with Fish Smoker to open interface
  3. Put in any fish
  4. Wait for processing to complete (takes some time)
  5. Remove finished Smoked Fish

Processing Results

  • Smoked Fish: Processed fish product
  • Smoked Fish sell price is 2x the raw material base sell price
  • Smoked Fish can be eaten, restoring more energy and health

Processable Fish

Fish Smoker can process almost all fish:

Regular Fish

  • All fish caught in rivers, ocean, lakes
  • Including: Carp, Bass, Salmon, Tuna, etc.

Special Fish

  • Legendary Fish
  • Night Market fish
  • Ginger Island fish

Cannot Process

  • Shellfish (Clam, Cockle, etc.) usually cannot be put into Fish Smoker
  • Trash items cannot be processed

Processing Time

  • Processing takes some time (usually one game day or less)
  • Processing time is not affected by season or weather

Sell Price Calculation

  • Smoked Fish sell price = Raw fish base sell price x 2
  • Not affected by raw material quality (Silver, Gold, Iridium fish have same processed sell price)
  • Therefore, using base quality fish for processing is most cost-effective

Notes

  • Can only process one fish at a time
  • Cannot cancel after putting in fish (until processing is complete)
  • Processed Smoked Fish quality is uniform
  • Can place multiple Fish Smokers for simultaneous processing
  • Smoked Fish can be gifted, but villagers react the same as unprocessed fish

Strategy Tips

  • For high-value fish (such as Legendary Fish), smoking can yield huge profits
  • Batch smoke after fishing, establish a smoked fish processing line
  • Combined with Fisher and Angler profession bonuses, Smoked Fish sell price can be further increased
  • Keep base quality fish for smoking, high-quality fish may be more profitable to sell directly

Skill Bonuses

Fishing Skill Bonuses

  • Fisher: Fish sell price increased by 25%
  • Angler: Fish sell price increased by 50% (advanced Fisher)

These bonuses stack with Fish Smoker’s 2x sell price, producing extremely high profits.
