The most reliable way to obtain Prismatic Shards is to mine a large number of Iridium Nodes in the Skull Cavern below floor 150.

Main Uses

1. Obtaining the Galaxy Sword (Most Important)

Take a Prismatic Shard to the center of the three pillars in the Calico Desert:

  • Obtain the Galaxy Sword (one of the strongest weapons in the game).
  • Also unlocks the ability to purchase the Galaxy Dagger and Galaxy Hammer.
  • Available for purchase at the Adventurer’s Guild.

This is the most important use of the Prismatic Shard. It is strongly recommended to use your first Prismatic Shard to obtain the Galaxy Sword.

2. Weapon/Tool Enchanting

At the Forge on floor 10 of the Volcano Dungeon:

  • Consumes 1 Prismatic Shard + 20 Cinder Shards.
  • Adds an enchantment effect to a weapon or tool.
  • Each tool can only have one enchantment, but it can be replaced with a new Prismatic Shard.

Weapon Enchantments:

3. Museum Donation

  • Can be donated to the Museum (Gunther).
  • Not a required donation item.
  • It is recommended to prioritize other uses.

4. Gifts

  • The Prismatic Shard is a β€œloved” gift for almost all villagers (exception: Haley hates Prismatic Shards).
  • Giving it to any NPC will grant the maximum friendship increase.
  • However, due to its rarity, it is not recommended to use it as a regular gift.

5. Crafting the Wedding Ring

  • Purchase the recipe from the Traveling Cart.
  • Requires 1 Prismatic Shard + 5 Iridium Bars.
  • Used to propose to other players in multiplayer.

6. Tailoring

  • Using a Prismatic Shard in the Sewing Machine can create special clothing.
  • Can be dyed with a unique rainbow color.

7. Quests

  • Mr. Qi’s β€œFour Gems” special order requires collecting 4 Prismatic Shards.
  • Only newly collected shards during the quest period count.

Best Usage Strategy

First Prismatic Shard

Strongly recommended to use it to obtain the Galaxy Sword. The Galaxy Sword is the strongest weapon in the game and greatly enhances combat ability.

Second and Subsequent Prismatic Shards

  1. Prioritize enchanting tools: It is recommended to enchant the Pickaxe (Swift) and Watering Can (Efficient) first.
  2. Enchant weapons: Recommended enchantments are β€œArtful” (attack speed) or β€œVampiric” (health regeneration).
  3. Keep in reserve: Keep 1-2 in reserve for quests or emergencies.
  • Donating to the Museum (not required).
  • As a regular gift (too wasteful).
  • Selling (sells for 2,000g, but its value far exceeds the selling price).

Farming Prismatic Shards

Best Location: Skull Cavern

  1. Craft a large number of Staircases to quickly descend to floor 150+.
  2. Use bombs to blast open Iridium Nodes.
  3. Kill Purple Slimes and Mummies.
  4. Look for treasure rooms.

Luck Boosts

  • Enter the Skull Cavern on high-luck days.
  • Eat Spicy Eel (+1 luck).
  • Wear a Lucky Ring.
  • Carry a Rabbit’s Foot.

Efficiency Improvements

  • Use the Infinity Blade or Galaxy Sword to quickly kill monsters.
  • Bring plenty of bombs and staircases.
  • Ignore regular ore and focus on finding Iridium Nodes.

1.6 Update Changes

  • Added more enchantment options.
  • Dragon Tooth enchantments can now stack with weapon enchantments.
  • Mr. Qi’s β€œFour Gems” quest requires Prismatic Shards.
