Stable Guide
The Stable is a farm building in Stardew Valley. After building it, the player will receive a Horse, which can be ridden to greatly increase movement speed.
Unlock Requirements
- No specific skill level is required. It can be built at Robinβs Carpenterβs Shop from the start of the game.

Material Acquisition Tips
- Hardwood: Use a Steel Axe or higher-tier axe to chop Stumps and Large Logs, or collect daily in the Secret Woods.
- Iron Bar: Mine Iron Ore on floors 41-80 of the Mines, then smelt it in a Furnace (5 Iron Ore + 1 Coal = 1 Iron Bar).
Functions
Obtaining a Horse
- After the Stable is built, the horse will immediately appear inside the Stable.
- The horseβs color is random (brown, black, white, etc.).
- In version 1.6, you can change the horseβs appearance by interacting with it.
Riding
- Approach the horse and press the interact key to mount.
- While riding, movement speed +30%.
- You can ride the horse across the farm, town, and most areas.
- You cannot talk to NPCs or use tools while riding.
Dismounting
- Press the interact key again to dismount.
- The horse will stay in place until you mount again.
- If the player goes to sleep, the horse will automatically return to the Stable.
Stable Interior
- The Stable interior contains a Horse.
- It also contains a feeding trough, but the horse does not need to be fed.
- The Stable interior space is small and cannot hold other items.
Tips
- The Stable is one of the most important buildings in the game for improving efficiency; it is recommended to build it as early as possible.
- Riding a horse can significantly reduce travel time to and from the Mines, town, and forest.
- Horses can pass through Fences and Gates.
- After version 1.5, horses can wear Horse Hats and other accessories.
- In version 1.6, horse appearances can be customized.
- If the horse is blocking the path, you can whistle at it (if you have the Horse Flute item) or push it to move.
