Stardew Valley Auto-Petter Guide
Introduction
Auto-Petter is an automation device added in Stardew Valley 1.5. When placed inside a Barn or Coop, it automatically pets all animals daily, helping maintain and improve animal friendship.
Acquisition
Auto-Petter has the following acquisition methods:
Main Acquisition Methods
- Joja Warehouse: Available for purchase at Joja Warehouse for 50,000g after completing the Joja Community Development Form
- Skull Cavern Chests: Chance to obtain in Treasure Rooms in Skull Cavern
Other Acquisition Methods
- Golden Coconut: Very low chance from opening Golden Coconuts on Ginger Island
- Fish Pond: Certain fish pond outputs (such as Lava Eel pond) have a very small chance to produce
Usage
- Place the Auto-Petter inside a Barn or Coop
- Only one Auto-Petter is needed per building
- Automatically pets all animals in that building every day
- Animals gain the same friendship as manual petting
How It Works
- Automatically provides one pet per day for all animals in the building
- Provides the same friendship as player manual petting
- Can stack with player manual petting (only one effective pet per day maximum)
- Animals do not gain extra friendship (manual + auto does not double)
Notes
- Only one Auto-Petter is needed per Barn/Coop
- Does not affect animal product collection (needs Auto-Grabber)
- Still effective on animals with max friendship, but does not exceed cap
- Easier to obtain on Joja route
Strategy Tips
- For large animal farms, Auto-Petter can save a lot of time
- Combined with Auto-Grabber for fully automated animal farming
- If taking Joja route, can purchase in large quantities
- If taking Community Center route, need to rely on Skull Cavern chests
Difference from Auto-Grabber
- Auto-Petter: Maintains animal friendship
- Auto-Grabber: Collects animal products
Both used together can achieve fully automated animal farm management.
