Stardew Valley Slime Hutch Guide

The Slime Hutch is a farm building that allows players to raise Slimes on their farm. It produces valuable Slime Balls that can be harvested for Slime and other items.

Building Requirements

  • Cost: 10,000g
  • Materials:
    • 500 Stone
    • 10 Refined Quartz
    • 1 Iridium Bar
  • Builder: Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop
  • Build Time: 3 days
  • Size: 7x4 tiles (interior: 15x8 walkable tiles)

Slime Hutch Basics

Capacity

  • The Slime Hutch can house up to 20 Slimes at a time
  • Slimes will breed and multiply if there are both male and female slimes present
  • Slime gender is random and cannot be determined visually

Water Troughs

  • The hutch contains 4 water troughs that must be filled daily
  • Use a watering can or rain totem to fill them
  • If water troughs are empty, slimes will not produce Slime Balls
  • Slimes will also attempt to escape if water troughs are empty

Slime Behavior

  • Slimes in the hutch are hostile and will attack the player on sight
  • Wearing the Slime Charmer Ring prevents all damage from farm slimes
  • Slimes cannot leave the hutch (they are contained within the building)
  • Different colored slimes can be housed together

Slime Ball Production

How Slime Balls Spawn

  • Slime Balls spawn randomly on the floor of the hutch
  • They only spawn if all water troughs are filled
  • More slimes = higher chance of Slime Ball production
  • Up to 4 Slime Balls can spawn per day

Slime Ball Contents

When broken, each Slime Ball yields:

  • 10-20 Slime (guaranteed)
  • Small chance for additional items:
    • Petrified Slime
    • Emerald
    • Diamond
    • Ruby

Harvesting Tips

  • Enter the hutch wearing a Slime Charmer Ring to avoid damage
  • Slime Balls can be broken with any tool or weapon
  • Harvest Slime Balls daily for maximum production
  • Slime sells for 5g each (base price)

Slime Types and Colors

Slimes come in various colors depending on their origin:

  • Green Slimes: Standard mine slimes
  • Blue Slimes: Frozen levels of the mines
  • Red Slimes: Lava levels of the mines
  • Purple Slimes: Skull Cavern (drop Iridium Ore)
  • Tiger Slimes: Ginger Island (drop Tiger Slime Eggs)
  • Yellow Slimes: Special variants
  • Black Slimes: Rare variants

Slime Egg Production

  • Slimes occasionally produce Slime Eggs instead of Slime Balls
  • Slime Eggs can be:
    • Sold for profit (Green: 1,000g, Blue: 1,750g, Red: 2,500g, Purple: 5,000g)
    • Placed in a Slime Incubator to hatch new slimes
    • Placed in a Slime Press to produce 10-15 Slime

Slime Incubator

  • Crafted at Combat Level 8
  • Materials: 2 Iridium Bars, 100 Slime
  • Hatches Slime Eggs into slimes
  • Placed inside the Slime Hutch

Slime Press

  • Crafted at Combat Level 6
  • Materials: 25 Coal, 1 Fire Quartz, 1 Battery Pack
  • Converts Slime Eggs into 10-15 Slime
  • Generally less profitable than selling the eggs directly

Profitability

Income Sources

  1. Slime Balls: 10-20 Slime per ball (5g each = 50-100g per ball)
  2. Slime Eggs: 1,000g - 5,000g depending on color
  3. Gems from Slime Balls: Occasional bonus drops

Strategy Tips

  • Focus on breeding Purple Slimes for the most valuable eggs
  • Keep water troughs filled at all times
  • Wear a Slime Charmer Ring when entering
  • Consider the Slime Hutch as a passive income source rather than primary
  • The Statue Of Endless Fortune can also produce Purple Slime Eggs

Dangers and Safety

  • Farm slimes deal damage like wild slimes
  • Always wear a Slime Charmer Ring or bring healing items
  • Keep the hutch door closed to prevent accidental entry
  • Slimes cannot escape the building, so they pose no threat to farm animals
  • Slime Incubator: Hatches Slime Eggs
  • Slime Press: Converts eggs to Slime
  • Slime Charmer Ring: Prevents slime damage (Monster Eradication reward)
  • Statue Of Endless Fortune: Can produce Purple Slime Eggs
